Zuri Financial needed to redesign their mobile app to address a 62% onboarding drop-off rate and rebuild trust among first-time users across Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya.
What needed solving.
The existing app forced users through an 11-step verification process before they could see any product value. Combined with an opaque fee structure and zero social proof, users abandoned before completing their first transaction. The engineering team had optimised for compliance, not for humans.
The thinking behind the work.
We ran a 3-week discovery sprint: 18 user interviews across Lagos, Accra, and Nairobi; competitive analysis of 12 fintech apps; and a full heuristic audit. The unlock: users needed to see value before being asked to trust the product. We rebuilt onboarding around a 'show first, verify later' principle — letting users explore a simulated experience before hitting KYC. A 16-token design system ensured consistency across iOS and Android. Every fee, every rate, every charge was brought to the surface.
What we built.
A completely rebuilt mobile experience with a 3-step onboarding flow, conversational KYC, real-time exchange rate visualisation, and a home dashboard built around clarity — not feature density. The new design system scaled across 40+ screens and established a visual language that grew trust at every touchpoint.
The impact.
